THE KELLY GANG'S DESIGNS.

llie Melhourno correspondent of the Ararat Advertiser says:-"Ned Kelly was seen some months ago by an old friend of mine, wlw was then in business in Benalla. Iliis person was out buying grain, and he chanced to fall across the gang as they were crossing the ranges. Ned at once recognised him, and invited him to have a drop of whisky, of which the gang had an excellent brand. Kelly chatted confidentially, and when asked what be thought the end would be, he put his pistol to his forehead, saying significantly. ! That before the gallows,' From my friend's account, Ned is not a bad-looking young fellow, but the others are weedy busli larrikins, without any thing not even looks, to recommend them. In tho course of the conversution, Ned dropped some hints that he might escape from the colony by means of some disguise, but not, he added,' until I've got plenty of money from banks,' The above maybe relied upon, as my informant is not the man to forge such a story. He used to buy Mrs Kelly's wheat, and speaks veil of the family, particularly Ned, who might have developed into a clever and successful man if not led aivay by horse-thieving prodensite, I believe the idea is correct, and that Kelly wishes to accumulate a few thousands, and then rush to the coast and tiy to get away, while the police arc confident that they have liim safe in the Straigthbocg Ranges,"
