CASTLEPOINT HIGHWAY BOARD.
A meeting of the Board was held at Tenui on Saturday last, the 15th inst. Present Messrs Butters (Chairman\ Groves, Greenland, Kenrick, Bennet, Bellias, and Dully.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, ' ' The Treasurer reported a balance in Bafik of £1,29? 3s 3d, and a balance available for future expenditure of L 594' 9s 7d.
The Overseer's report and wages bill were read and passed. The following correspondence was then read
Letter from Mr George Smith, ferryman at Whareama, requesting the Board to pay his salary. Prom the Under-Secretary, with copy of petition from settlers in the Lowe 1, Whareama, praying for a separation from this and the Masterton district, and desiring to form a hew district to be called the Whareama district. •
From the Under-Secretaiy covering copy of a letter from tlio Rev. J. C. Andrew, on the subject of the new district.
From Mr A. Napier, requesting that a bridge be put over Sandy Creek before the winter sets in. From Mr Tucker re Whakataki Castlepoint road contract.
From A, Nicliolls, asking permission to remove earth from the rise in front of Mr Cox's, From Public Works Office re Whakataki Cashpoint road. The following accounts were passed for payment J, W. Baker's salary, and mens' £ s. d, wages 50 4 0 Sanndevs and llusseli, timber.. 8 6 6 K. Hughes, repairing tools .. 15 0 A. McHutclion, valuer .. 20 0 0
H. Tucker, contract No. 5 Ward 44 0 0
H, Thompson, contract, repairs . ■ to Whareama Bridge .. 245 0 0 H, Thompson, deposit on con- ; tract II 5 0
Resolved—That the Clerk be instructed to forvard Mr Smith's application for salary to Chairman of County Council, and request information thereon. Resolved—That it is the opinion of this meeting any separation or division of the present Road Board District is injudicious, and would injuriously affect the interests of the district, as a whole.
Resolved—That Mr A. Napier bo informed that funds not being available, tlio Board is unable to accede to his request at present,
Resolved—That Mr Nicholl's request be granted, Resolved—That the Under-Secretary for Public Works be supplied with a copy of resolution re Whakataki road.
The next meeting of the Board is fixed for Saturday, the 12th April.
