The Wairarapa Daily. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 12, 1879.

Last week we procured a supply of Register forms for the convenience of the public, so that any one who did not happen to be on the roll ffight, by calling at our office qualify himself in this respect with a minimum amount of trouble and inconvenience. As yet our friends who are not 011 the roll have not availed themselves of the facilities we have placed at their disposal, and we would again remind them that after this month it will be too late for them to register, and that at the next General Election, when political excitement will run high and they will desire to exercise a voice in the choice of representatives for the district in the General Assembly, they will be left out in the cold. All that a nonelector has to do is to sign his name to a proper form at our office, or if it be not convenient to call, to fill in properly one or other of the forms given below, andforward the same to MrWardell, the ReturningOfticer for the district. There are two ways in which names may be placed on the roll; either by application under the Act of 1866, or through being included in a list of ratepayers for some municipality or road board. As in many districts municipal and road board clerks have hitherto succeeded in so compiling their lists as to render them nearly useless for the purposes intended, it is advisable that those who wish to be assured that their names shall appear on the rolls should send in their claims under the Act of 18G6. The form is as follows

Cuim to Vote. To the Registration Officer of the Electoral District of Christian Place where Name'aeit Place Nature Property Sui'iiame.fif 'cti . ,pf situate, and the Claim- Abode! rameprdeant at full cation, pf length, same.' "

I do hereby give yuu notice that I I claim to have my Name inserted in the liist ] of Voters for the Electoral District of s ] and I declare that my Names, PI ce of liesi-' . dcnce, and tho 'Nature and Description of my ' ( Qualification are stated truly in the columns ,• above. (Signature of Claimant) Signed and declared by tlio] Claimant this clay f of , in the year 187 i ( before me ) Signature of Attestivg Witness iA Justice of the Peace for the ■ Colony of New Zealand. The Registration Oflicer. An Elector for said District. In filling in the form it is necessary to observe that the name and surname must be given at full length, the place of abode accurately given, the nature of the qualification, that is whether '• freehold," "leasehold," or "household," and a sufficient description of the locality to fix the oxaet position; Cave must be taken not only to iill in the name in the form and claiming clause, but the latter must be signed as well, and . before a J.P., the Registration: Officer, or an elector of the district. Attention to these particulars is neces- " sary, as many people iind themselves ' disqualified through' carelessness in iill--1 ing up the form. Every man who owns a freehold property to the value of n £SO, or who holds leasehold property. J or is a householder, or who pays a rate to a municipality or road board is entitled to the franchise. It is therefore in nine cases out of ten a man's own fault if lie be not a free and inde

pendent elector. Even lodgers, under certain conditions, can now be registered. We should like to see the next Wairarapa roll a big one, and liope those who are already registered will take an interest in qualifying those who are not.
