WAIRARAPA EAST COUNTY COUNCIL.
A mooting ol the above Council.was held yesterday evening, in the office of tho Borough Council, the following Councillors being present:—Messrs George Beetham, M.H.R., (chairman), Maunseil, Pharaayn, Smith, and Wingate. : The chair was taken at 7 p. m. ■ipUTES. The initiates of the last meeting of the Council were read and confirmed. The minutes of a conference of Counties East and'West,-held on the 20th February, wore also read. CORRESPONDENCE. A large amount of correspondence dealing with matters of routine was received, and referred to the Finance and Public Works Committee. REPORTS. Reports were received from the Public Works and Finance Committees, and from the County Engineer, the former being adopted, .and the latter referred to the Public Works Committee. FOANCB. The chairman reported that the Bank overdraft amounted to £9l 12s sd, but that taking into account advances made on special votes, thoro wau'nn actual credit balance on tho books of £653 lis lOd. TREASURER. Tho resignation of Mr George Beetham as Treasurer, was read., Tho Chairman, Mr Beetham, explained
that his resignation was occasioned by the requirements of the Act, in regard to the debentures, which necessitated their being signed by .the chairman and countersigned by the Treasurer. It was therefore impracticable 1 ! that those offices, should con' tinue to b« \inited in one person,

Wingrttp, It;wsw';.resolved r-Tha.t be appointed Treasurer, and his salary as clerk and treasurer be increased to £IOO per annum; two sureties to bo found in £IOO each. WAIOHEfB RIVER BOARD. • The chairman read the resolution passed by West..County Council in reference to the application.of the River Board for pecuniary assistance, The' County Engineer was in attendance ' and verbally reported on tho subject. . A slight discussion ensued, and, on tho motion of Cr. Smith, seconded by Cr. Maunsell, it was resolved:—That this Council is unable to comply with the request of the Waiohine River Board for assistance, expenditure' of loan. After a very long discussion as to the best mode of expending the amount to be raised by debentures,. a resolution was passed, by way of instruction to the Public Works Committee, that the execution of the works, should not be undertaken until tho whole of the amount had been actually raised or substantially guaranteed, ACCOUNTS. Several accounts were presented and ordered for payment. DOG REGISTRATION. The-clerk brought under the notice of tho Council the question of registration of doga, the consideration of which was deferred to the noxt meeting of the Council, ... suraiEs. Instructions were given to the Finance Committee to open an Imprest Supply Account with the County Engineer. The Council adjourned at 11 p,m,
