CARTERTON.
[FKOII OOK OWK CORF.BPOSDEST.] Carterton, Feb. 18. The last excitement iu our midst is that a cash box—l hardly thought any one in our midst had enough of tlio ' ready' to need one—has taken wings unto itself, or has been accommodated by some obliging individual with means of transit, aiuUias flown-where ? Well, echo answers " where," and tlio late and exasperated owner now sits on bis door-step sinking disconsolately " Ah, where and oh where has my little cash box gone." As usual, wo understand the police are on the track of the depredators. Let us hope the track may prove a satisfactory one. Another enterprising gentleman yesterday entered one of our stores and, having called for a tin of salmon, departed with it, unfortunately, however, without paying, ,f or which ho was kindly provided by Her Majesty's representative with a night's lodging, prior to being presented at the Court of the Majesty of the Law herself. *
Booth's store is going ahead, likewise the now Sir' George Grey Hotel. I hoard some one hint that all goods at the former wero to be delivered on the truck system not by wagon.
