(From an Oocoasional Correspondent.) Castlo Point was visited on Sunday last by a description of tidal wave or tremendous surf which for some time caused considerable, alarm to the people located there as the waves came up under the • buildings which has never boen the case within the knowledge of the oldest settlors. A stockyard usually far beyond high water mark was completely washed out to sea. ■ A quantity of timber stacked was -also ' carried away, the sea malting a general havoc amongst anything loose. Messrs Kenrick & Co., are the heaviest sufferers, losing a quantity of timber etc., besides the damage to the landing plant. Kenrick & Co., have undertaken tho carriago from Castle Point to Tinui and havo reducod the freight to Co/s per ton from Wellington to Tinui and lis Gd per bale for wool to Wellington. They are entitled to the support of the settlers as they have been the means of reducing the freight to about one half the original charges, In fact the whole of the principal settlers in the Tinui district in consideration have pledged themselves to support t'aelnafid they are making arrange- , ments for a carrying plant in the shapo of waggons independent of the brake that already runs regularity. They also have a quantity of draught horses suitable for the work, and they intend building a large receiving shed at Tinui for storing goods, which will be built on a large scale and calculated to store an immense quantity of goods & wool, besides being a great convenience to the settlers. ■ . One want we notice here is the. absence of a good blacksmith,there being plenty of trade to support a good tradesmen and the business must necessarily increase with the district and here a man could establish himself without any great outlay of capital. Messrs lorns and Fergussion sale of Cannings cotswool rains- here on Monday was not a great success,- rThey were* mostly withdrawn and at Carterton Earn fair. . -V . '
