[From our own Corresponmot], - January 31,1819, Tho fire on Potts' Line, after-some three hours goodhardlabor, was successfully got under without doing any further damage; but hardly was this effected when news came that the bush near Messrs Stewart's mill, near the bridge recently erected over the Mungatawera river, on the Belvedere Road, was on fire,- and it continued to rage fiercely all through last night, lighting up the country for miles around, and there is still a large body of timber alight, Which, with the heavy wind blowing, is likely, to dive further into the bush, unless we havea heavy downfall of rain speedily, TheOlarevilleSchoolOommitteeheldits first meeting last night in the School-room in accordance with ordors received from head-quarters, all the members being present. Mr Isaac Bairstow was re-elected Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer for tho current year. It was decided to give effect to resolutions passed by the late Committee, by erecting a shed for the protection of the girls in inclement weather, and to purchase croquet and cricket sets for tho children, tho order being given to Mr A, Ksk, storekeeper, -who undertook to furnish -thorn at cost price. It was left for the Chairman''to call the Committee together from time to time as need might require. Tho Gommittee of the Carterton School met in tho Scnool : houso last night. Mr W. Parker was elected Choirm'an for' the ensuing year, and Mr R. R. Armstrong appointed Secretary and Treasurer,
