GREYTOWN BOROUGH COUNCIL.
*- ' ', The Council met in the' Town Hall on , Monday evening last. Present—His Worship the Mayor, and On Smith, Udy, Gray, Fuller, Gallagher, Barnard, BaiUie, , and Kempton, jun, The minutes of the last meeting were I read and confirmed. -. A letter was read from the Bank of New Zealand, Greytown, stating that £5 had been placed to the Borough funds, and asking the name of the .officer to 1 operate thereon. 1 A letter was also read from theColo--1 nial Secretary's Office, re election of Councillors, and enclosing two copies of the Municipal Corporations Act. There was also a letter from Mi' Thos. '_ Frethey, Returning Officer, stating the ' result of the election for auditors. J A letter from the Colonial Secretary, asking to be informed of the occupation of the Mayor. It was resolved on the motion of Or , Baillie, seconded by Cr Fuller, that tho , Mayor be appointed Treasurer to the ' Council, , Proposed by Cr Gray, seconded by Cr Smith—That Crs Udy and Gallagher be [ authorised to sign cheques in conjunction [ with the Treasurer. ,' Proposed as an amendment by Cr J Fuller, seconded by Cr Kempton—That ( the name of Cr Barnard bo substituted for that of Cr Gallagher. Being put to the vote, 5 voted for the amendment and 2 for original motion. It was .resolved, on the motion of Cr } Smith, seconded" by Or Udy, that the j Borough funds be kept at the Bank of New Zealand, Greytown, , It was resolved on the motion of Or \ Barnard, seconded by Or Udy—That Mr. , T. Frethey bo appointed Town Clerk, with a salary to be at present at the rate, of £SO per annum. It was resolved, on tho motion of Cr ■ Kempton, seconded by Cr Gray—That k the Clerk be instructed to write to the t Chairman of the Greytown Trust Lands, * in reference to making arrangements for- > leasing one of the front, rooms of the ' Town Hall as an office for tho Borough, to be used once a week, also, the use of ' the back room for the meeting of the ■ Council fortnightly, and also the Town Hall when required for public meetings, Rules drafted by sub-Committee appointed by the Council were then read by the Clerk. f Cr Barnard moved, seconded' by Cr Gallagher—That the rules as read be '. adopted, and that 50 copies be printed in j the form of a pamphlet. Carried. 3 Resolved on the motion of Cr Smith, s seconded by Cr Udy—That a Collector a and Working Overseer be advertised ioc ; ut Collector to give security in two sums of j £SO each, and the applicants tor the office B of Overseer to state salary required per I week, Cr Smith gave notice that he would move at next meeting—That a Finance Committee be formed to ascertain the probable, income of the Borough, and the amount likely to be available for expend!l ture, the Committee to consist of Crs. , Baillie, Gallagher, Barnard, Udy, and the j mover, It-was resolved on the motion of Cr J Baillie, seconded by Cr Gallagher that the time of holding meetings of Council be every alternate Monday evening, at 1 pm, Resolved on the motion of Cr Udy, t seconded by Or Baillie, that the Clerk f obtain from various Boroughs copies of their bye-laws.
