HARD TIMES FOR GEORDIE.
I’ll be the gladdest boy in town when Christmas day is past ; It ain’t "•fid fun to have to run whenever yoVgit ast. Maw tel] me forty times a day I'll not gif 'this er that Unless Irhustle right away to do things--if 4he cat J Howls when her tail gits pinched they say that Santa Claus won’t bring The skates or eled I want and that I’ll nut get anything!
I have to clean the sidewalk off, or else when Santa comes He’ll be all out of rubber boots and pocket knives and drums; They keep me on the jump all day; it seems to make them glad To think that I’ll git left unless I keep from bein’ bad. I dassen’t holler in the hall or sass them back, because Unless I minded it would all be off with Santa Claus.
I have to go to bed at night as soon as supper’s et; I dassen’t even tear my pants or git my
stockings wet, For that would make old Santa mad—nt least maw says-it would*— And I’m most nearly tired out from always bein’ good : ■ ■ I wish the sun went down at noon and time went twice as fast— I’ll be the gladdest boy in town when Christmas day is pant.
