THE NEW CHRISTMAS SPIRIT.
Sister is gathering presents To out-do her friends; she has more Than a cart load of bundles and boxes She could start a respectable store. Day after day she goes shopping And charging the things that she buys Each night she comes home out of temper, With a woebegone look in her eyes.
Mother is busy from morning Till the curtain of evening descends; She wants to beat all our relations And also astonish our friends; Her wrinkles ,alas, are increasing, And her manner is pitiful when She gets home all bedraggled and vowing That she’ll never go. down town again.
Father—poor, gray-headed father— Gets .ijr from his breakfast to rush To the places where people are busy, • Getting crushed or pise trying to crush. He must paw for what mother and sister-' Are charging up day after day, And it isn’t much wonder that Christmas Is that he hears with dismay.
