Hospital Board.

At the meeting on Wednesday. Mr Atwill said Mr Miller and himself had visited the Hospital and found everything satisfactory. A few small repairs only were needed. Messrs Sinclair and Sanders were appointed visitors for the month. The question of having a trained nurse in the Hospital was brought up, Mr Walker said there was no differ-, ence about the necessity, it was merely a question of whether the nurse should be allowed to go to outside oases. Mr Breen thought the doctor should have a free hand to send out the nurse if required and when convenient to the Hospital. Mr Sanders thought it should be thoroughly understood that the nurae could only leave temporarily to attend private cases while another nurse was being engaged. Mr Walker also thought that she should only go out to very urgent cases and that only for a limited period. He did not think there would be much occasion to go outside the institution.

Mr Hart also thought the Surgeon should be th judge where the nurse was required. I would be hard if she were attending a case and at the end of 48 hours had to come back when she was needed by the patient and not by the Hospital. My-Breen supported this. It was decided to offer Miss Buckley the appointment at a salary of £52 and if she did not accept the chairman be appointed to advertise for applications. Accounts amounting to i£lo4 8s 9d were passed. The Matron’s report was read and approved. The Surgeon’s report showed that there were 3 males and two females under treatment at last return. 7 males and 1 female were admitted during the month 3 males and 1 female relieved, 1 male dead leaving 6 males and 1 female still under treatment. Outpatients (old patients) 2 male and no females (new cases) 3 males and 2 females.
