—— o ASHBURTON STOCK SALE. Ashburton, December 9. There was a medium entry of sheep and cattle at the Ashburton yards, and spirited competition for all classes of stock. Prices for sheep advanced Is per head and up to 2s for store hoggets. Beef advanced 2s 6d per lOOlbs. Prices were as follows : Cattle—Yearling stores, 34i to 43s ; dairy cows, £2 15s to £5 15s ; steers, £3 10s ; fat heifers, £4 15s to £8 ; cows, £6 10* to £9 10s ; steers, £4 15s to £ll 10s. Sheep—Fat crossbred ewes, 14s 6d to 18s Id ; do in the wool, 13a 3d to 21a ; merino ewes, 9s 3d to 11s 5d ; do in the wool 8s 7d ; freezing wether*, 16s 7d to 19s Id ; store cross bred ewes with lambs at foot, 7a to 9s 3d ; do in the wool, 8s 3d to 12s 2d (all counted); hoggets in the wool, 14s 6d ; do shorn, 9s 4d to 13s lid ; merino wethers, 9s 3d ; merino ewes and lambs in the wool, 7s Id (ad counted) ; 2-tooih and 4-tooth crossbred wetheis, 12s 8d to 12s lOd. OAMARU GRAIN MARKETS. The excitement in the wheat market continues, there still being strong enquiries both for local consumption and for export for prime milling, and, in fact, for all classes of wheat. One or two parcels of good milling have changed hands at ss, but it is possible that more could be got for really prime lines if they were offering. Good Tuscan and medium velvet have been sold at 4s 9d, while fowl feed is worTi 4s to 4s Id, ex store, and sales have been made at up to 4s 3d f.o.b , but quota'ion* continue somewhat nominal, the volume of business being very restricted. Sales of good feed oata have been made at up to 2s 5d and 2s 6d. Barley is in good demand at last week’s quotations. In consequence of the temporary scarcity of potatoes due in part to kidneys being late this year, detwents have advanced’till they are now worth £7 10s to £7 15s, on trucks, at sidings. Wheat—Prime velvet, to 6s ; Tuscan and red chaff, 4s lOd ; fowl wheat, 3s 9d to 4* Id according to quality. (All quotations are nominal). Oats—Danish, good feed, 2s 5d to 2s 6d; Garton*, and short feed, 2a 7d; milling, 2s 7d ; dit coloured and damaged samples, 2s 2d to 2s sd. In the store sheep pens 4110 were offered, the bulk being ewes and lambs and wethers, all being shorn but three lots. There was a good demand for all classes, and a total clearance was effected at auction.
