Bowling.
As a close holiday will be observed in Waimate next Tuesday 16th, the match committee have decided to have a day on the green for all the members of the club and have arranged a match president v. vice-president. The set of “ tour badges ” for the rink competition are now complete and members desiring to compete are revested are requested to hand in their names to the secretary, the first holders to be balloted for. The following are the sides picked for Tuesday’s match, play to start promptly at 2 o’clock: —President — Scott, F. Akhurst, R. Inkster, fl. Fertalett, W. Menzies, W. Cannron, Clarke, Morgan, Dailey, Rowse, Murdoch, Crawford, Atwill, J. Menzies, Hynam, Harris, Cox, Kirkland, Dockerill, Twomey, Syraon, LeCren, Fuller, C. A. Wilson, A. Wilson, Beekett, Hamilton, Perry, Borrie aud W. D. Mitchell. Vice-President—W. Coltman, J. P. Smith, H. Wilson, J. Cameron, Goldstone, C. Akhurst, Williams, Grant, Christie,. Mann,Nicol, A, Inkster, Evans, McLennan, J. H. Mitchell, Hutt, Wills, Richard, Watts, Middleton, Flynn, S. Clarke, Shackleton, Hargreaves, Bailey, Barclay, M. Smith, Graham and G. Miller. INTER-CLUB MATCHES. bowling districts. lor the purpose of encouraging interclub play the association has arranged affiliated clubs, according to geographical position, into the following five groups: District No I—Christchurch, Canterbury, Sydenham, Southbridge and Ashburton Clubs. District No 2 Tiraaru, Waimate, Oamaru, Meadowbank, Oamaru-Phtenix, and Palmerston Clubs.
District No 3—Dunedin, Caledonian, Roslyn, Kaituna, St. Clair, Port Chalmers, Green Island, Taieri, and Outram Clubs. District No 4 Milton, Lawrence, Balclutha, Kaitangata and Clinton Clubs. District No s—lnvercargill, Invercargill North, Gore and Riverton Clubs. Any club hereafter affiliated will be added to that district group to which by its poiition it naturally belongs. Pennant Matches.
The delegates, after careful consideration of the whole matter, have decided, for the promotion of bowling, to institute pennant inter-club matches amongst affiliated clubs, under the following conditions :
1 The association will present for competition a pennant to each of the five bowling districts. 2 Delegates from the clubs in a district shall, prior to the Ist of December in each year, arrange the inter-olub matches and at once notify the secretary of the association of the said matches. (Note : The limit of time does not apply to matches of 1902-3; Club executives are requested to make for this season raatoh arrangements as toon as practicable).
3 The minimum number of rink* represen'ing a club shall be three, and the number of hea is played shall be 21. 4 The match between every pair of clubs shall be played alternately on the green of each of the pair, unless other satisfactory mutu il arrangement is made. 5 Every club shall once a year play against everv other club in the same group ; and though return matches may be played during the season, these latter shall not count for ihe pennant. The club winning the largest number of inter-club matches in a season shall be the champion of its district, ana shall, during the following season, hold the association’s pennant. In the event of a tic, the association has the right to arrange for a deciding game ou a neutral green. 7 Any game unfinished on the day it is begun shall be played ateesh. 8 The laws of the New ZeJand Bowling Association shall govern all games. 9 Each year a framed certificate shall be presented to the winning club. 10 In Dunedin district the inter-club matches are already drawn for the 1902-3 competition, except that arrangement has yet to be made for matches with Outram.
