Patents.

Fortunes have and are being 1 made from patents in these . colonies, in fact ever since there has ( been Patent Law, the inventors of new and useful articles that have appeared from time to time to help in the progress of the world, have all reaped great monetary benefit. One has only to examine many small articles in daily use, such as boot protectors, buttons, cooking utensils, locks, parts of machinery, vehicles, and indeed a hundred and one devices, and they will be found to have been at some time the subject of a patent privilege. There is scarcely an article with which we are acquainted, and of which millions probably have been sold, that has not been at some time the subject of a patent. It is often the simplest things that give the best results; a simple part of a machine, as for instance the quadrant device for adjusting the chain of bicycles, often place the maker of that machine in the forefront of his trade because of the special patented improvement which he offers with his goods.

Inventors cannot do better than consult Henry Hughes, International Patent Agent, It'S Hereford Street, Christchurch, and to obtain his pamphlet “ Advice to Inventors.” Telegrams: Hughes, Patents, Christchurch.
