Mr Chamberlain will confer 'with the Afrikander Bom! leader's at Capetown in addition to the .members of the Ministry, and 'will receive deputations through|out the tour. Probably, he will [visit Portuguese East Africa. He lis desirous of presiding at the 'joint conference of all the colonies' representatives with the object of removing all misunderstanding. The strength of the South African garrison is now 59,000. Lord Lyttelton hopes to reduce this number by half by March next.

Mr Chamberlain travels by way of the Suez Canal, and will land at Durban. He is unable through lack of time to visit Rhodesia.
The Commission appointed at Pretoria under Article 10 of the Vereeniging agreement assesses claims and makes enquiries whether the notes and receipts produced as evidence of war losses were issued for valuable consideration.
The Government notifies that the Grant of £3,000,000 under the Vereenitiing terms is not applicable to burghers in good financial position. This notification corrects the current impression r.hat any burgher suffering war losses is entitled to share in the grant. Another notice claims the interest due on the late Government advances to burghers.
Viljoen inquired of Lord Roberts whether the Boers might offer their services in Somaliland, adding that if acceptable he might also proffer his services. Capetown, November 3.

Many more are afraid to sail, being sceptical of the promises made.
