Somaliland.
London, November 4. Colonel Swayne has arrived at Aden temporarily. He is advising the Foreign Office on the conditiou of Somaliland.
General Manning has. arrived at Berbera and has assumed supreme command. The advance is deferred awaiting the African Protectorate troops. The force available on the 27 th will be three thousand. A larger force is discountenanced.
r Details of artillery and special 'service officers from Berbera ate advancing immediately to a base between Berbera ana Illig.
General Manning dispenses with Indians as far as possible, except for holding the lines of communication, owing to the difficulties of transport and climate, and the necessary followers. Preference will be given to the Protectorate regiments. The general advance will begin in the middle of December, when Colonel Swayne has returned to his post. The season is now favourable for the advance. The Mullah will doubtless utilise his opportunities to carry on a boastful propa-
ganda. Uneasiness is felt at Aden at the unconfirmed report that the Mullah has raided the advanced outpost near Cobotleh, capturing an im[portant camel transport.
