THE PREMIER.
The Premier arrived at Wellington from Auckland on Wednesday, and was given a great reception. In the evening a citizens’ reception was held. In his address Mr rieddon paid a tribute to the Acting Premier and his colleagues for the manner in which the public business had been carried on during his absence. He would be a small-minded man if he did not give them his whole-souled and hearty thanks for what they had done. He had been asked since bis return whether he was not surprised at the satisfactory way things had gone on in his absence, but he said emphatically that he was not surprised, because New Zealand was not reduced to a one-man Government. With the assistance of his colleagues he would do what was right and best in the interests of the people, and do it wellOn resuming his seat Mr Stddon received a great round of applause, followed by three cheers.
