Cricket. .

[By Clbft Ash.] There was a fair attendance, considering the counter attractions, at the opening of ihe cricket season on Thursday. Teams were picked by the captain and vice-captain. The captain won the toss, and going in put together 58 runs. Fulton and Minn were the

chief scorers, Griffin and Goldstone being the most successful with the ball.

For the vice-captain Goldstone and Evans had the best score, Cooper and Fulton bowling most successfully. Fulton's bowling and batting were very good, especially the latter, when he knocked up such a fair score against the bowling of Hayes and O'Shea. Goldstone was in pretty fair form with the ball, as was also Griffin, who managed to break the stand of Fulton and Mann by taking a hot returned catch.

With O'Shea and Hayes the Club does not lack swift bowlers. Evans has a bit of good batting in him if he only gave more power to his strokes. V. Wilson's fielding is a credit to the Club, but when batting he must remember he is not playing " tip and run." Cooper was in fairly good form with the bull, and with the bat he Jio played well. Of the schoolboys, Taylor and Fowernker were smart in tha field, and should get a place in the second eleven.

CtißFr Asir was gl.id to see so many new members in the fi«ld, all of Avhoni shiiped well for their first game.
