Waikakahi Settlers' Association.

A well-attended meeting was held last evening, Mr W. Beer presiding. A letter was received from the Commissioner of Crown Lands in reply to one by Mr Beer asking the Board to visit the settlement when in Waimate at the end of the month. This could not be done, but it would consider matters which individual settlers might bring forward. The Board sat in Waimate on the 30th.

A long discussion took place on the wants of the settlers, the chief being that they should be allowed to take three white crops in succession if the land was dirty and required it. Mr Hay moved, Mb J. iJooney seconded, and it was carried — "That the Land Board give the rangei power to decide whether a third grain crop could be taken off." The m>ver said that the p.esont restriction to two crops pressoi? heavily on the heavy land. It was decided, on the motion of Messrs Hay aud Macalister, that the attention of the Land Board be drawn to the amount of stormwater which collects on the Morven flat, and ask them to deal with it. Thu'chairman mentioned that a half-chain drain was to be cut through the Maori reserve. Messrs Beer and Corrigan, Sides, Forsyth, and Dale were appointed to interview the Land Board and place these matters before them.
