Petit, J.P.’s a young man, charged with creating a disturbance in a public hall during a performance, was convicted and fined 5s or in default seven days’ imprisonment. Yesterday John Thomas Trudgeon, for committing an indecent act, and for resisting the police, was given fourteen days’ imprisonment. Messrs J. Manchester J. Steward were the presiding justices.

The boys' bicycle race, which was postponed from Thursday last, came off last evening. Eight competitors faced the starter, and of these only five finished. R. Hardy (15 sec.), 21 min. 18 sec. was first, S. Butcher and B. Turner, 21min. 40sec„ were a dead heat for second place. Hardy takes, in addition to the first prize, that for the fastest time. Several of the other competitors found the corners too much for them, and came to earth.

A narrow escape from a serious accident occurred yesterday afternoon to Mr W. Quinn. It appears that he was holding a conversation with a party while seated in a gig, the back of wbich was at right angles to the road near Mr G. Boyes’. As a truck load of firewood was passing the horse took fright and backed the vehicle in between the wheels. Mr Quinn and the other occupant jumped out and escaped unhurt, but the trap was considerably damaged.
