Mr McCullough, Victoria, and Mr Taylor New Zealand, that I endeavoured to unsuccessfully float small loans in London, are a fabrication and untrue; also the rumour that I attempted to float a New Zealand loan is incorrect. X never attempted or even suggested the same, and the merest tyro in finance would see the absurdity of such a proceeding at such a time. I decided before leaving London that the date of placing a New Zealand loan on the London market would be settled on my return to the colony. Financially, New Zealand stands high in the money market.’
