A despatch from London dated September 16th says that British military activities in India have been given a sudden impetus by an alleged determination of Russia to force an early test of the foreign policy of Mr Balfour and Lord Lansdowne. It is asserted that no one feare that Russia will pi ess its point beyond that necessary for securing the desired information; but the British War and Navy Departments are alive to possibilities. Scores of military officers in England and South Africa have been ordered to rejoin their Indian commands.
