ALDINGTON .MAIIKE S. [Bv Telegraph.] Christchurch, October 15. There was a medium entry of stock a d a good a tendance. Price * for mutton and beef again ruled high, and the yarding of store sheep totalled only 1005. the bulk being hoggets and ewes ami lambs For these latter there was an improved demand, but dry sluep sold at late rates. The chief sales were : Sheep—s 4 wethers, 12s 3d; 240 hoggets, 8s 7d, 75 at 10s 3d ; ewes and lambs, 9s Id to 9s 6d. There were 900 fat lambs penned, and they were all purchased by butchers at 13s 6d tc 16s 3d. The supply of far, sheep was a small one. Cattle —The market opened with high prices ; n the fat cattle pens, and 161 head of mixed quality were entered. The competition at the opening of the sale was slack, but became brisker when an export buyer began to operate, and prices were on a par with those of last week. Steers made £6 5s to £l4 ; heifers, £5 17s 6d to £lO ; cows, £8 5s to £ll 7s 6d, equal ro 27s to 32s 6d per 1001 b. The yarding of pigs was a medium one in point of numbers, but there were some very prime quality baconers offered. The presence of a buyer for the south had the effect of hardening values for both fats and stores for the Canterbury Agricultural College. Berkshire baconers were sold at £2 14s to £4 2s, and for Mr D. W. McLaren, Mount Hutt, Tamworth Berkshire cross baconers, £2 7s to £3 6s; other baconers realised 40s to 565, equal to 4|d to s£d perlb ; porkers, 24s to 365, equal to 5d to sgd per lb ; stores, 16s to 28s 6d ; suckers and weaners, 6a to 13s. LAND SALE. Messrs Guinness and LeCren, Limited, report having sold, on account of Mr H. J Gaarder, to Mr W. J. Mulcock, a farm at St. Andrews containing 351 acres 3 roods 22 perches. A very healthy demand exists for both freehold and leasehold properties, and there is no difficulty in effecting sales at reasonable prices.

A considerable area of land is going under white crops again this year, and farmers who have been anxious for warm weather to bring these away, have been treated to a succession of parching winds in the last few days, which have dried the surface till another shower would now be acceptable, wheat (new) —Velvet and Tuscan, lipme bright, 4s Id to 4s 2d ; good velvet ISfl red chaff, 3s lid to 4s Id ; medium jjfnlfaing, 3s 8d to 3s lOd ; discoloured or -damaged wheat for fowl feed, 2s 8d to 2s lOd, and 3s to 3s Id for better qualities. Oats—Danish, good, 2s 3d to 2s 4d ; Gartens or short feed, 2s 5d to 2s 6d ; milling, 2s 6d ; seed oats, 2s to 3s ; discoloured and damaged samples, 2s to 2s 2d, according to quality. Barley—Prime malting, 3s to 3s 2d ; , medium, 2s 6d to 3s ; feed, 2s 3d to 2s Gd. Potatoes—Derwents, £4 2s 6d to £4 os, at sidings (sacks, net); —North Otago Times.
DUNEDIN GRAIN MARKET. Oats—The market remains quiet, and the demand for shipment during the past week has only been on a small scale. Good lines of feed, however, for shipment, are fairly scarce, and prices remain firm at last week’s quotations for lines up to B and 0 grade standard. Milling and seed lines still meet with a fair enquiry, but inferior lots are hard to quit. We quote—Prime seed 2s 8d to 2s lid, prime milling 2s 7d to 2s 9d, good to best feed 2s 5d to 2s 7d, inferior to good 2s to 2s 4d (sacks ex‘ra). Wheat—The demand for prime milling is only moderate, and business passing through is not extensive. Medium quality is not asked for, but whole fowl wheat is scarce, and in strong demand. We quote—Prime milling 3s lOd to 4a 3d, medium quality 3s 4d to 3s 9d, whole fowl wheat 3s 2d to 3s 4d, fowl wheat (broken) 2s 6d to 3s (sacks extra). Potatoes—During the past week consignments have come forward fairly freely, and the market to-day is, in consequence, easier. We quote Prime Derwents £4 7s 6d to £4 10s, medium to good £4 2a 6d to £4 7a 6d. Chaff—The market has been well supplied during the past week, fairly heavy consignments having come forward fiom the north and south. Prices to-day were slightly below our last quotations. We quote —Prime oaten sheaf £4 15s to £5, medium co good £4 to £4 15s, inferior to good, £3 to £3 15s.
AMi BUR lON LlVfe STOCK MARKET Ashburton, October 14. There was a fair attendance at the Ashburton jarda to-day. The sale was a drugging one, and resulted in a drop of 6d per head in sheep. The fat sheep pens were full and the quality better than last weeb. The store cattle were poor in condition and prices of fat beef and sto/ receded.
