ANNUAL HOHtE PARADE. This fixture took place on tlie Show grounds on Saturday afternoon, several hundred people being present, and the greatest interest was taken by farmers and others to whom the breeding of stock is important. The entries numbered sixteen, composed of thiiteen draughts and three carriage stallions. No doubt owing to the late spring the hoises were not up to tlm condition generally seen, and thus did not show to advantage, but the quality is more easily judged when a horse is not carrying too much flesh. With it few i-x;*-p----tions, which were on the light side, the horses were a good selection, well calculated to improve the breed of stock in the district. , Following is a short description of the horses on parade - DRAUGHTS. 1. Mr W. Frizzell's Lawrence Chief. Sire Vanquisher, by Young Vanquisher (imp.), dam Blink Bonny, by Lord Salisbury ; bred by John Shearer, Esq. A good upstanding horse H the pink of condition ; plenty of bone and hair. 2. Mr W. Scott’s Pride of Canterbury. Sire Prince Alfred, :lam Gipsy, by Duke of Edinburgh. (Rising three years old). A well built nuggety horse of average height. 3. Mr J. Luck’s Herdsman. Sire Herd Laddie, dam Isabella IV., by Black Diamond. A good-looking animal, well ribbed and finely set up. 4. Mr T. McDonough's Good Times. Sire Hard Times, dam Jess, Plenty of bone and splendid hair, but rather low in condition, which rather detracts from bis appearance at present. 5. Mr A. S. Williams’ William the Conqueror. Sire Clydesdale Willie, dam Jess by Prince Victor, grand-dam Oamaru Belle by Young Banker. An upstanding dark horse with great legs and hair, but hardly in the condition to do himself justice in the show ring. 6. Mr J. H. Mitchell’s Dalmuir Prince (imported). Sire King Kbama, dam Boqufaanron Maid, An average sized horse, clean, well ribbed, and short in the-back. Possessed of good legs and hair/ 7. Mr A. Dalgleish’s General White. Sire Russell’s Fancy, dam Maggie by Hard Times. a horse of the compact cobby class, carrying plenty of condition. 8. Mr A. Dalgieisb's Springbank if. Sire Russell's Fancy, dam Rosie. The same remark as above piactically applies to this horse. [). Mr 11. Sanndeis’ Royal Stuait ( 278 N.Z. Stud Book). Sire Middlerigg (115 N.Z. Stud Book), dam Cann-dia '526 N.Z. Stud Book), by Victor (109 N.Z. Stud Book). A splendid upstanding dill k bay, the real type of Clydesdale, well libbed up and finely proportioned all over. Plenty bone and hair of the finest quality and great action. 10. Mr R. Davie’s Clydeside. Sire Clydebank, dam Nellie, by Young Banker. well set loose of average height. 11. Ktlcher Bios' Colonial Lad. Site Prince Consmt by Ciown Prince, dam Miss Wallace. (Tim e years old.) A medium sized and well-pioportioned coll (3 yeais), likely to throw a good stamp of plough horse. uilL low iu condition, but showing quality. Good legs and liaij. 12. Mr J. O’Donoglnie's Knight of Snowden (imp.), ."-ire Grampian, dim Fancy VIII. A good Stamp of horse of average height and evenly proportioned. Fine action, though not quite so forward in condition as some of the others. Short limbs, with plenty bone and hair. 13. Mr M. Duggan's Aviernoi e. Sire Hard Times, dam by Sir Arthur Gordon. A hardy, compact looking horse of a beautiful dark bay colour. Should be just the type to produce farm horses. CARRIAGE STALLIONS. 14. Mr L. Thyne’s Experience. Sire General Tracy, dam Fanny by Tribune, Tribune by Traducer. A beautiful upstanding bay of splendid appearance, and the very type to produce good 1 carriage horses. 15. Mr W, Henery’s The Count. Sire Viscount, dan; Jess by Governor (imp.). A good useful medium-sized horse, but looking rather rough in the coal at present. 16. Mr D. Gibson’s Forrester. Sire Shales, dam Polly. An old favourite still looking up to form. His stock are well known as carriage horses in the district.
