The Late M. Zola.
Paris, September 30. Madame Zola, so far, has not been informed of her husband’s death. The Anti-Semites and Catholics are rejoiced, and their newspapers speak bitterly of the departed novelist. The Pope exclaimed, “ If Zola was the Church’s enemy he was frank; God rest his soul.” Widespread regret at M. Zola’s death is. shown in Britain and Italy, owing to Zola having championed Captain Dreyfus. October 1. • The remains of M.i Zola will be given a civic funeral on Friday. When the tidings of his death were broken to Madame Zola she shrieked and sobbed bitterly, and then sank into a deep stupor.
