NEW RAILWAY RA.TES. The new railway rates as at first understood seemed likely to result in many anomalies. However an explanation removes any discrepancy. There is no reduction in the rates of passenger fares up to 50 miles ; for the second 60 miles the rates are Jd per mile instead of Id, for second class and after 100 miles |d per mile ; not for the whole distance, but Id for 59 miles, 3d for the next 50, and % for the mileage over 100. First class fares are IJd per mile up to 50 miles then IJd up to 100, and beyond 100 miles Id per'mila. A second class fare for 200 has then to be calculated—fifty miles at Id, 50 miles at 3d, and 100 at £d ;a first-class fare, 50 at and 100 at Id. In all cases Id is added.
