THE PRICE OF SEED, &c.
TO THB EDITOR. Sir,—l no ice I in your paper tin difference in the price of breid tJ? people of Waimte have to piy to tin people in Ghri*ichurcii and D t ledi i. Th re is fa,ulb in the millets as well as th>j bakers for chargi ig so much for their flour. There is no reason wl.y wshould pay so much for our bread, fo • the wheat is grown and grou d in Waimate, and there is no railage to pay, an i the storekeepers as well as they arc selling bread on commission. Ther. is auother thing as bad. Th it is the flower seeds and vegetable seeds, whic i are sold in pickets. I went i ito a store after -some seeds and I paid the s orekeeper for the p ircels I got H' asked ms whether I wanted anything more, f said, “ Yes, please, I want my change.” He said the money I gave him was right. I said “ What is cabbiga seed? threepence a packet ? ” and he sai 1 “Yes.” I unt.ed my parcel and took out the Cabbage seed, and I sai 1 I wail i rather go without cabbages all my lif . as there was only a ha’fpenny worth in the picket. The flower seeds ire worse still than the vegctvble semis. The flowers cn the pickets are got up very well, but the seeds insi le do > ot follow suit, because there are any amount o£ th pickets with no s-ed in, an 1 of th > sejd which is in the packets not ti quarter of it will grow. I was talking to a lady about the fl >w -r seed, and sdd there was not half of'it w wild grow, and bhsaid to me, “ H>w oan you exp ict it to grow ? I had a lot of packet , and of five packets thers was not one seed in them.” The storekeepers ought to g t the seed and put it in the packets themselves, because the people arc buying paper instead of seeds.—l am, etc., Spa DU
