Water Gas for Waimate
Mr Watt, of the New Zealand Water Gas Engineering Company, arrived on Tuesday in connection with the Waimate installation. We understand he meets the Council at a special meeting to be held for this and other purposes on Monday night, when he will remove what he considers a slight misunderstanding in connection with the agreement. Mr Watt showed ns a ahaaf of opinions of his customers at Balclutha after twelve months' use under the new works. One and all speak in the highest terms, both as to the beautiful light and as to its cheapness as compared with kerosene. The incandescent burner seems to have caught on there, as there are considerably over 250 in use, some of which have mantles that have been in use for over twelve months. He has also erected several gas engines of various sizes—three, four, and six horse-power, so that this i& a strong proof that it is giving every satisfaction. The Balclutha Gas Company are so pleased with the support they have received that they have reduced the gas Is per 1000 feet from August Ist, so that everyone seems pleased, both the company and consumers. The latter we do not wonder at, as we noticed several gas bills for July month amounted to 2s 6d, Ss 9d, and 5s for a month’s lighting, while formotive power foraprinting office the charge was 5s a month for gas engine power. No one can grumble at the expense of water gas aftea that. We ate confident that the Council will deal fairly with Mr Watt, and that we will be able to report success.
