THE TEMUKA STOCK SALE.

The usual forbwgfrlj Bale of stock was held at thq yards on Tuesday. There was a good attendance of stock dealers and farmers ; competition was keen ; prices realised were good, and the major portion of the yarding ohanged hands. „

Cattle—lso head "were yarded, the sales being as follows :—Fat cows, £5 5i to £5 12s 6d ; good bullocks, £8 2< 61 to £8 17s 6.1; steers and heifers, £4 18s to £5 2b i yearlings, 30s, 31s to 325; heifers in ealf, £6 to £6 Ids ; springing cows, £6, £6 2a 6d to £6 10s; bulls £2 2s to £5 6s.

Sheep— 4000 were penned, two tooth maiden ewes selling at 14s 41 ; fullmouthed ewes in lamb, 10a 6d, 12s to 13s ; three-qearter bred hoggets, 9s, 9a sd, 9s 6d to 10s Id ; fat ewes, 10s, 12s 6d to 13s; four and six tooth wethers,' 14s 61 to 149 lOd.

Ashburton, August 26.

At Tinwald yards to-day the attendance was an average one, and there was a fair entry of stock. Fat cattle and fat sheep sold well, but other classes were on a par with last week's rates. The following are prices realised : Fat Cattle—Heifers, £7 to £7 Is ; cows, £6 10a to £8 ; steers, from £4 10s to £7 5». C«ri»tchorch, August 27. There was a fairly large entry of all classes of Btock and a good attendance. Sheep—The yarding of store Bheep was a mixed one and totalled 3880. The sale was rather dragging, buyers not operating with such confidence as last week, though prices were practically without change and few lots were passed. The chitf sales ware 131 wethers 13s sd, 142 at 13s Bd, 128 at 13s sd, and smaller lots at Hi 7d to 148 3d ; 100 four and six tooth ewes in lamb 14s7d, 130 four tooths 13s 9d, 159 mixed ages Bs, others 12s lid to lis, and aged down to 4s 9d ; 181 hoggets 10a sd, 160 at 10s sd, 163 at a r 9s lid, and smaller lots 7s 6d to 10s Bd. About 40 fat lambi were penned, beat sorts making 14s to 16d 81 and others 8s 6d to 13s. There were between 300 and 400 fat hoggets offered and they made 10s 91 to 15s 5d there woe a large entry of fat Bheep including some prime lines of prime freezers and seTeral pens extra heavy and prime wether* the markets opened at about last week's rates.

Cattle—There were 198 head of fat cattle penned of fair average quality, there being no extra prime sorts forward. The sa'e was Bomewhat dragging, and prices showed a slight decline on last week's lates. Steers made £6 2s 6d to £l2 2s 6d and extra to £l3, heifers £5 2s 6d to £ll 15s, and cows £5 to £8 7s 61, equal to 22s to 30s per 1001 b. Pigs—Baconers and porkers were in good supply, and there being no outside competition there was a considerable decline on last week's prices. Baconers made 40s to 353 and extra to 625, equal to 4d to 4£d per lb, and porkers 25s to 365, equal to 4d to fid per lb.

CHRIBTCHURCH GRAIN AND PRODUCE MARKETS.

August 26. The local grain and produce markets have quite recovered from the stagnant condition that characterised them during the winter months, and the demand that JjrtS set in from Australia for oats and 'fodder has Had a stimulating influence. There nas been a fair enquiry during the week for wbeu at 3s lOd to 3s lid for Tuscan and Fearl, and 3s 9d to 3s lOd for Hunter's at country stations. Bales have been reported at 4? Id to. 4s l|d, f.0.b., buyers operating somewhat cautiously *t this figure, and, on the other hand, * one holders are still holding out for higher prices. It is pointed out by some that new wheat will not be available for: fully six months, but although wheat can be imported into Auckland from California at 4s 4d, duty paid and sacks included—a prioe that is relatively cheaper than it can be obtained from Canterbury, it it hardly likely that the Auckland milter* will import to any considerable extent from America so long as they can get fair supplies ofj New Zealand grown wheat. Oats have also been in fair demand,

more especially extra machine dressed seed. Several sales of feed lines to Sydney buyers are reported at 2s 3d to 2s sd, f.0.b., according to quality. The sales at 2s 3d are of mixed samples of oats that were intended for shipment to South Africa, while fairly bright oats have sold up to 2s sd, f.o.b. Good lines of ordinary farmers' dressed oats for seed purposes have been sold up to 2s 7d f.0.b., but samples that have been dressed by special seed-cleanicg machinery have realised 2s lid to 3s f.o b.

The following are current prioes paid to farmers, and free of commission, except where otherwise specified : Wheat—Hontert, 3a 9d to 3s lOd; Tuscan and Pearl, 3a lOd to 3b lid at country stations, according to distance

from port. " Oats—Long feed, 2s 3d to 2s id; short feed, 2s 4d to 2s 5d ; milling Canadians (nominal), 2s 6d at country stations. Barley (nominal)—Prime, 8s to 3s 6d at country stations. Beans— 3a 4d to 3s 6d, at country stations.

Peas—Partridge, 3s 6d; Bine Prussians, 5< 6d to 6s 9d, at country stations. Flour (Millers' quotation!)—Boiler £lO 10s per ton. Pollard, £6. Bran, £5 15j. Oatmeal, £l4. Potatoes—Beauty of Hebron £4; kidneys, £4 to £4 6s ; Dements, £3 to £8 6s at country stations. Onions, £3 (nominal) at country stations.
