TELEPHONE EXCHANGE.
TO Till IDITOB. Sir,—At the last meeting of the Waimate County Council Mr Ehodes asked the question," What had beeome of the petition signed by those willing to become subscribers to a Telephone Exchange connecting Waimate with Timaru, Oamaru and intermediate townships, and that the Hon. Major Steward be written to on the matter ?" For the information of those interested and to exonerate the hon. member from any blame, I beg to state that the delay has been caused by our not having the required number of subscribers on our list. Since the hon. member left for Wellington I have had charge of the list. We require three more to make up the required 25 subscribers. Anyone willing to become a subscriber should communicate with me, as I will be pleased to have their name on the list, and as soon as the required number is got will forward it to our member, who has promised to see the matter is taken in hand at once;—lam, eto. Chas. H. Bkslby. St. Andrews, August 4th, 1902.
