Sale of Work.
The sale of work and gift auction held in the Oddfellows' Hal) on Thursday was a great success in every way. The function was inaugurated by the Ladies' Guild and Vestry of St. Augustine's Church, the object being to raise funds for the renovation of the church interior and other necessary works. There was no formal opening, businees at the wellladen stalls being commenced right away and with the rosult that more than half the goods were disposed of before closing time. In the evening, when business was resumed, there was a very large crowd present, and the "sideshows," such as the bran pie, fish pond, shooting gallery and ping pong tables, did a coating trade. Much amusement was also caused by the sale of trimmed hats, less than a nod being as good as a wink to the auctioneer. A very nice supper was laid out on the stage and this part of the programme was always well patronised. During the evening songs were acceptably rendered Misses Boyd and M. Franklin and Mr G. EvaiiL and a pianoforte selection Mrs Owen.
Produce of all kinds—oats, wheat, barle}', potatoes, pork, etc. —was auctioned by Mr Bourne at good pricss. The sale closed about 10 p.m., every article having been disposed of.
The whole affair was most satisfactory, over £IOO being taken. When expenses have been met this will leave a very good sum in hand.
