ASHBURTON STOCK SALE. Asiiburton, July 22At the Aahburton yards there was a small attendance and the entries were also small. The sale dragged throughout. The following prices were realised : Cattle—Fat heifers, £4 10s to £5 2s 6d ; steers, £4 5s to £7 17s 6<l ; cows, £4 15s to £5 12s 6d, one vealer 20s ; store cattle, £3 10s to £6 10s ; dairy cows from £2 17e 6d to £5 10s. Sheep—Fat sheep (merinos) 6s 2d to 7s 9d, merino wethers 8s 2d, crossbred eW'S 9s 2d to 12s 2d, crossbred wethers 16s 7d to 10s 9d, forward 2-tooths 14s 6d to las 9d ; store sheep, hopgets 8s 2d to 10s 9d, crossbred ewes 8s 2d, merino ewea 5s 3d to 7s, merino wethers 5s 6d. Pigs—Wcaners, 7a 6d. PLEASANT POINT STOCK SALE. There was a fair yarding of sheep at tl e Point sale on Monday and a good sale resulted, the bulk of the yarding changing hands. The following were quotations:—Fat ewes, 9s, 9s 61,105, lis 6d, to lis 9d; store2 and 4-tooth weth ere, lie 6d to 12s 3d ; 6,8, and full-mouth-ed ewes in lamb, 10s, 10s 3d, to 12s 5d ; three-quarter bred ewes, 2 and 4 tooth in lamb, 14s 2d ; extra good three-quarter bred hceqets, lis Is ; ordinary store hoggets, Bs, 8s Gd to 9a ; medium hoggets, 7s to 7s 6d. There was a small yarding of cattle, which met with a good sale especially for fats, which seem to be particularly scarce in the district at the present time. Light weight heifers sold from £7 to £7los ; springers from £2 10s to £7 ; cows in profit, £8 10s ; eighteen-months'-old cattle from £2 5s to £2 10a. After the stock sale the Canterbury Farmers' Co-operative Association (Mr Mundell) held a successful clearing sale on account of Mr A. K. Agnew, which consisted principally of sundries and farm implements. A yearling bay colt by Heather Jock was sold at £3O ; double furrow ploughs £2 10a. to £4 5s ; set of three-leaf harrows £2 and a number of other lots too numerous to particrlarise were also disposed of at satisfatory price*. THE HOME MARKETS. The Canterbury Farmer*' Co-operative Association, Limited, have received the following information from their London Office, by cb'e: —"Frozen meat.—We quote to day's value on Smithfield Market of prime Canterbury mutton and lamb.
3£d and 4|.l per lb respectively. Th market has an improving tendency." The Agent-General's cablegram, dated London, July 19th, is as follows : " There is do alteration in the mutton market since last week. The average price of Canterbury ewe is 2|d. L»mb is ste<dy, Canterbury, 44,d ;other brand*, 4£d. Beef is firm; New Zealand hinda, s§d ; fores, 3§d. Hump is firm ; eood fur Wellington, £2B 10s, July-September shipments, £26 i(k Cocksfoot is quiet. New Zealand 17ib standard, Wool is firm." Messrs \)\ 'gety and Co have received the fol'owing cable message, dated Loud-n, July 18th : 'Stocks of frozin meat an? very small. Cattle—ln the fat cattle pens there was an entry of 218 head, comprising prime steers and good cows and heifers, and notwithstanding the supply thTd was a good sale throughout A. heifer with an unbeaten record for four yeais at Ghiistchurchand Dunedin shows, bred by Mr J* Ferguson, Halswell, waa sold at £l3 10a to Mr \V. B. Ciarkson j 10 steers from Mr R. H. Rhodes, (.Hall una, made £lO to £l2, and sixteen from Mr W. Birdling, junr., brought £8 17s 6d to £los ; other steers made £6 to £ll ss, heifers £5 53 to £8 17a 6d and three extra £9, cows £5 to £7 ss, equal to 19s to 25s 6d per 1001 b, Pigs—A small yarding of pigs met with a brisk sale for all classes, baeoners selling at 38s to 48s and up to 60s for extra, equal to 4d per lb ; porkers, 22i to 345, equal to 4d to 4|d per lb ; large stores, 15s to 21s ; medium, 12* to 14i ; Suckers and weaners, 7s 6d to 9a 6d.
