Accident.

A terrible accident occurred yesterday to the four-year-old daughter of Mr Blackley, Maud street. The child was playing in the section, where a trap horse was running, and put her hand on its hind leg. Although ordinarily very quiet, it lashed out and struck the child in the forehead, laying it open. Drs Barclay and Cruickshank were summoned and were quickly on the scene. They found the front of the skull fractured, the brain being exposed and the membranes torn, besides a fracture of tho lower jaw. Tho little one was operated on under chloroform, and a broken portion of tne skull removed. She is still living, but there are little hopes of recovery. Great sympathy is felt for Mr and Mrs Blackley.
