Lord Kitchener.
London, July 13. The Orotava arrived at Southampton at nine o’clock this morning and was quarantined, as Major Gordon, of the Gordon Highlanders, is suffering from smallpox. - Lord Kitchener and his staff were allowed to land. The Indian Princes, the Duke of Cambridge, Mr Brodrick, and the Duke of Connaught met Lord Kitchener at Paddington station, where the Prince of Wales welcomed him. Lord Kitchener, who was bronzed and looked well, was introduced by General French, and had a tremendous ovation all along the route. Lord Kitchener, General lan Hamilton, General French and staff in khaki occupied carriages, Lord Roberts’ staff escoiting them.
Many colonials witnessed the procession from the Coronation stands on Constitution Hill, which the colonial and Indian troops lined. The Queen and many Royal guests viewed the procession from the balcony of Buckingham Palace. The Prince of Wales entertained Lord Kitchener at St. James’ Palace, thanking him on behalf of the King and the Empire. His Royal Highness said that they had watched with admiration his skill, tenacity, and patience. The Marquis of Salisbury and Ministers were present.
