Patriot or Pro-Brewer. Which are the more deadly weapons : Those that were used by the Boers, or that are used by the brewers and distillers ? THE COST IN LIVES. During the 32 months’ war, ending June Ist, ISO2, the Boers and their climate (chit fly their climate) slew 21,0'12 British people trom all parts of the Empire. During the same 32 months strong drink has slain over 320,000 British people in all parts of the Empire. The war deaths averaged 680 per month, or 8232 per annum. The drink deathi averaged 10,000 per month, or 120,000 per annum. Every ten weeks the drink traffic slays more British people than were slain in 12 months by Boer weapons and the climate. THE COST IN CASH. The Boer war, in twr years and eight months, cost Britain £180,000,000. The drink traffic, in the same two years and eight months, cost the British people £500,000,000. A brief expenditure of £07,500,000 on war, A continuous expenditure of over £187,500,000 on the more deadly drink. Challenge these Figures if you can. If not, ask youreelf, Am I a Patriot or a Pro-brewer ? Face to face with facts that show such fearful waste of human life, how should you vote on the licensing question ? Vote to save, not to destroy, your fellow-countrymen. —Alliance Leaflet.
