Hannaton Notes.
(BT OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) The late social held in the school was voted by all who attended a splendid affair, due largely to Messrs W. Paul and McPherson, who spired no time or labour in working up and conducting the arrangements I hear it is probable that an effort will be made to ho'd a fortnightly social and dance in the school, commencing at 8 and concluding at 11 p.m., the pr >c edi to go in aid of the school picnic funds. It is <vi lent that the residents are determined to place the school funds in a sound posi ion At the Hannaton School C mimtlee meeting held on Monday it wa* d;cidod that all the members support Mr Geo. Miller’s candidature as a member of (he Education Board ; that a hearty vote of thanks be pissed to Mr Coombs, m u iger of the Dresden Pianoforte Company, for kindly granting the use of a piano for the late concert; also, a most hearty vote of thanks to Messrs Feeeman for their great kindoe-s in running a drag from Waimite for the convenience of singers, etc , free of charge. Messrs McPherson and Paul waited on the committee and stated that they would expect to have about £4 10 * to hand over to the committee to be placed to the school picnic lund, proceed of the late social and dance'. The c >mmittne wish to sincerely thank these gentlemen for their kind thoughtfu'ness. lam pleased to say the btudholme Junction intei locking sy tem will soon be an accomplished fact, I intend having a good look over the system and hope to report on the working in my next. Still another settler leaving us. 1 refer to Mr John McNamara, who has sold out one of his holdings to Mr W. Mills and the other section to John Fogarty. I believe Mr McNamara intends taking up a section at Arnot. I hear also that Mr O. Hiyman will soon be leaving us. lam sure we all wish them the best of good luck in their new undertakings. We have also lost our IKirter, Mr Geo. Munn ; in fact, we are having a series of exchanges. Mr Munn only got notice of his shift on Monday, and he left to take up his new duties at Temt’ka by express on Tuesday. Well, I for one have to acknowledge many kindnesses from Mr Munn, and I am sure we will all regret his removal to another station, still it seems to be the system of the Railway Department that as soon as a Civil servant begins to make himself at home at our station they shift him. Mr Ws O. Chesterman takes Mr Mann’s place here as porter, and comes with a good recommendation from Temuka, where he received a long list of presents on leaving.
