New York, June 29. The American Steel Corporation is raising the wages of 100,000 of its employees by 10 per cent at an annual cost of i, 000,000 dollars. Sydney, June 80. The eight hours day will come into operation among the tramway and railway working staffs tomorrow, and will cost £60,000 per annum. Tbe Commissioners were strongly opposed to the principle. The cost will be borne by tbe general taxpayer instead of coming out of railway revenue.
