Th« Football Club hold a practice jo the Park this afternoon. The County Council has been gplendidly decorated and will bo lit up on Saturday night. There was a good mustor of members at Band practice last evening. Another practsce will be held next Wednesday evening.
The Post and Telegraph Offices will be open as usual to-day (Thursaay). Mails will be despatched at usual hours.
The Hou. W. Hall-Tones has, says the Timaru Post, received a cable stating that the Tenth Contingent will probably embark for New Zealand next month. A charge of twopence has kept the crowd off the large railway stations and the same scheme io going to be tried with the smaller ones where there is likely to be a crowd. A good deal of dissatisfaction was felt at the non-appearance of the Mayor at last evening’s msating. One member said they might as well have no Mayor at all if he never turned up. It was asked whether the Mayor received any official telegrams, and on a reply being given in the affirmative, it was said these should certainly have been sent to the meeting. On receipt of the sad news of the illness of the King and tl e postponm*nt consequent of the Coronation, the Rev. McKenzie Gibson asked the other ministers of the town to meet him in conference in order to arrange for a united service and intercessory prayer for the King to take the place of the Coronation services which are necessarily postponed. We are pleased to be able to report that such a service has been arranged, and it wm unanimously decided to hold it in St. Augustine’s Church at II o clock this morning. . Particulars of the service will be found in the advertisement columns.
