Trumper nr.d Hopkins opened the Australians’ second innings. The former scored seven, when he was bowled. Hopkins played a good innings, and was caught by Storer at the wickets. Hill and Armstrong carried the game to the luncheon adjournment. On resuming, Armstrong gave Arnold an opportunity in the slips. Gregory joined Hill, who played steadily. The Sydneyite commenced freely, but played steadily later. Play was slopped by rain with the score at three wickets for 104, and as the rain continued to fall, play was abandoned for the day. June 18. There was bright weather, but the wicket was soft, though good, when play was resumed to-day. H:ll wts run out, the wicket being thrown down brilliantly by Jessop from cover-point. Darling added a single, and then played a ball on. Noble was dismissed without scoring, and Duff was caught. Gregory was then bowled by Thompson after a splendid innings. Trumper was out leg before without scoring, and Kelly was bowled by Thompson. The following are the scores ; Australians. First innings •• 154 Second Innings. The Australians thus won by 131 runs. The Australians play an eleven of England at Harrowgate on September Ist instead of the St. Helens match, which has collapsed.
