Our Volunteers.
The usual fortnightly parade of the Waimate Rifles was held last evening, Ca.pt. Barclay and Lients. Hurst and Jackson in command of 35 men. LieutCol. Bailey and Sorgt-Major. Jones were present. Most of the evening was devoted to the manual and firing exercises. Capt. Barclay exercised the men in Company drill. One candidate was elected and five proposed. Capt, Barclay notified that Martini Henry rifles had to he handed in during the next few'days, also that on the evening of the day when peace is declared the corps will parade at the drillshed at 7.30. After parade a meeting of the committee was held to make final arrangements for the social to be held on June 19th.
