Sir J. G. Ward states that expenditure by local bodies on memorials of the Coronation — such, fox instance, as fountains — will be considered as commemorative expenditure, and be assisted by the Government subsidy of £SOO for cities and £2OO for boroughs.
In reply to enquiries, the Mayor of Timacu has received the following telegram from the Hon W. Hall-Jones :—“ In re Coronation celebrations. The Government have decided to subsidise expenditure by boroughs outside the four centres pound for pound up to £2OO. In other words, if a borough, out of its own funds, spends £IOO on celebrations, the Government will contribute £2OO. If a borough expends £IOO, then the Government will contribute £SO, and it is intended to introduce an Act indemnifying the municipalities for this expenditure.”
