CLEANING SALE AT HOOK.
A clearing sale was held at Mr Mostyn Jones’, Akatere, yesterday. As Mr D. P, McLean has leased the farm, nil lots were sold without reserve. The following are some of the prices : Sheep.-190 two tooth ewes to Mr McLean, 100 lambs to Mr Ruddenklau, 6s 9d ; 300 to Mr Wain. 6s 81 ; 200 sound mouthed ewes tc Mr Ra’tray. 10s Id * 270 ewes, 5i fad : rams, 5a and 3s. Cattle. Bidding was very brisk. Springing heifers,£6 15s. £7 15s. £4 10sj £4 ; short horn hull, £3 ss’; poley cow in milk, £B, to Mr Wain ; others, £3 ss, £8 17s 6d to £8 los. Horses.—Bay ma-e, 6 years, £5 : 5 year old gelding, £42 10s, and others at lesser figures. Implements, etc.—Wood binder, £10; grain and manure drill, £22 ; Cambridge* roller, £lO : disc harrows, £lO 10s. The piano brought £2l 10s and the furniture and a various lot of sundries were disposed of at fair prices.

There whs a good demand for the better r rts of all classes, lambs showing an improvement on last week’s prices. A few lots 0 f Chatham Island wetbcre made 9s 6d to Hi 9d, and others

The principal sales of wethers and lambs were 202 wethers 13s Bd. 501 at 13s 7*l. 100 at. 13s 6d, 250‘at 12s 10d. 493 at 12s_4d, 119 at 1 1 g 91. 411 at 11s 4d. 120 merino wethers 4s 44, 450 lamb* 8 s 91, 400 at 8* 7d, 194 at Bs, 150 at 7s Id. 101 at 0s 11s, and 316 ghnrn 7s 2d. There were only 1564 fat lambs on offer, and with few exceptions they were of rery indifferent quality. There were 1401 taken by export buyers n t 8* Id to 12s lOd and 13a 5d to 15b 7d for tegs, and IBS were bought by butchers at 8s 9d to 13s lid. The entry of fat sheep was a very heavy one, and {he market opened well fo* freezers. Cattle. —The supply of beef comprised 189 head, which were mostly light-weight heifers and cows, prices remaining about the same as last week. A line of 15 steers from HighO-.ld made £8 5j to £9 6s, nt.her steers £6 10s to £9 15s. heifers, £5 55 to £7 12s 0 I. and cows £5 to £8 s*. equal to 19s to 24s 6d per 1001 b. pigs.—There was a fair entry of pigs and fats warn rather easier toward the end of the sale, while there was a very poor demand for stores. Baconers made 1 555 to 47s 6d, equal to 3|d to per lb ; I porkers 20s to 30s, equal to to 3|d j per lb ; stores 8s to 15s, and suckers and weauers 4* to Bs. DTNEDIN MARKETS [By Tkleohaph] .
