Colonel Ooienbrander's column has captured Beyers’ laager. It is feared that Beyers and a few others escaped by scaling a precipitous range. .
General ‘ Bruce Hamilton's column has arrived at Standcrton. During the sweeping movement in the Eastern Transvaal they hilled, wounded, and captured i-io Doers. Colonel Colenbrauder’s total captures were 100. Nine rebels at Yrybnrg, the majority of whom had twice joined coiumio «dos, wore sentenced to terms of penal servitude, varying from live to twenty years.
April 17. After General Ivekewich had dispersed the Doers at Rooiraal, General lan Hamilton pursued and killed seven and captured 81 additional prisoners. Major-General Roochfort’s column night-surprised the laager at Secweizenek, capturing 55 Doers with their waggons and stock. Sydney, April 16. Shippers of horses to South Africa have been advised that the British military authorities at Durban have ordered that no private Australian shipments shall be allowed to land. This step is taken in consequence of the huge number of inferior animals which are being sent, and with the object of stopping what is termed a Hood of rubbish, and placing the trade on a more satisfactory footing. The action has resulted in the cancelling of intended shipments. It has also placed Mr Allen, who bad got together a string of thoroughbreds intending to race them in South Africa, in an awkward position. The official account of the execution of the Australian officers has been tabled in the Federal House of Representatives. It discloses no new facts beyond that Monm-t and Handcock, who were courtmartialled on four counts of minder, were found guilty on three. The verdict was accom- . panied in two' instances with a recommendation to mercy.
