A' certain omnibus company has gained notoriety for the slowness of its horses and in connection with this an amusing story is told.

As one omnibus reached its destination an old man with a long white beard rose feebly from a corner seat and tottered towards the door. He was, however stopped by the conductor, who said : " Your fare, please." " I paid my fare." " When ? I don't remember it." " Why, I paid it when I got on the 'bus."

" Where did yau get on the 'bus ? " "At the starting-place."
