THE TENTH CONTINGENT,

The probable date of the depariure of the Tens h Contingent is April 19lh. The total number in camp to-day, including the camp staff and throe members of tho Coronation Contingent was 530, th-; total roll nu nber of the Tenth Contingent being 5 officers and 480 men. About 100 horses are in camp. The men were inspected by the officer commanding
the district in the morning. Shooting prac. ice starts to-morrow. Nelson, April 8.
W. Stevens, of Nelfbn, who was a member of the Second Contingent and who for his action at Bhenoster Kop in bringing forward ammunition in face of a heavy tire was mentioned in Lord Kitchener’s despatches and promoted to the rank of sergeant, has received a .ieutenant’s commission in the Tenth Contingent, and leaves to-morrow for Addington. . , „ Wellington, April 8.
Captaincies in toe North Island companies of the Tenth Contingent are to be given to Lieutenant Mostyn Jones and Lieutenant V. A. Steward, both now in Africa with the Sixth Contingent.
