Waimate Choral and Orchestral Union.
The adjourned annual monling oi tilt) Vt'aiaiato Choral Union was held in St. Augustine's schoolroom on Thursday evening, about forty inemln-rrt being present. Apologies were received from Mesdamorf Scott am! Adams. ])r Uacolay, and Messrs V/. L. Scott and J. Monzies.
In tho absence of the president, the Rev. A, S. Morrison (vicepresident) pn-sided. The first business was the eleolimi of ollicers.
Dr Barclay was proposed for re-elecfiou as president, but be, though quite willing to continue to assist the Society, thought the office should be a roiling one, and his nomination was withdrawn. The. Rev. A. S. Morrison was elected president. The following vice-presidents were elected : —Dr Barclay, Revs. P. Regnault, McKenzie Gioson, J.* O’Connell and J. Blight, and Messrs, J. F. Douglas and G. PUcaithley. The retiring secretary, Mr C. Akhurst, was proposed for reelection, but owing to lack of tune he declined to stand, and Mr G. Eyans was elected. 'Mr W, L. 'Scott, 'the late treasurer, declined to act again for a similar ''reason, and Mr J. E. Hutcliinsdu was elected to the, position. The general committee for the year are : —Misses .Turnbull and Boyd and Messrs W. L. Gcott, E. Porter and C. Akhurst. Musical committee —Mesdames Hamilton and Scott and Mr W. Coltman. ;
Mr 0. J.'Goldstone was reelected Conductor ' and Miss Ait hurst accoinpahiste amidst applause. Librarians— Messrs W. Goldstone and V/. Marriott. Mr* C. Akhurst, the ‘retiring secretary, reported that he had received ho further word Loin feho Invercargill Musical Uhion about music they were to be asked to lend, and it was resolved to hold the first -practice as soon as it comes foiiand, the secretary to notify members by advertisement’. , . . .
A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring president, Dr Barelay v as showing appreciation 'of, the enthusiastic way in which ho.had attended to the business ’of the society. , Votes of thanks were r also passed to Messrs C. Akhurst and \V. L. Scott, without whose energy, it was said, the society could riot have carried on ; to Mr 'C. J. 'Golhstone, ■to Miss AkhffVst, and to the musical arid sreheral committees.
