HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir,— Can you inform me why it is that the Waimate Horticultural Society, after having the most successful, show it has ever held, are deducting ten per cent from their prize-money. It comes as a bit of a shock after paying 5s for a members' ticket, and only winning a 2s prize to have ten per cent taken off it, more especially after the amount of talk and gas lot off at their mutual admiration luncheon. Perhaps, however, it is only a leaf out of the Traders’ Association’s book, and they are charging us ten per cent on the money they owe us.—l am, etc., Cabbage Head; P.S. —How many years’ prizsrtnoney of the W.H.B. would it need to fetch in i> water supply. C.H.
