The Ninth Contingent.
There were 210 applications in Napier district for 25 positions. Two emergency rnon were taken tho whole being a fine bodv of men. WiiT.r.iNciToN, February 6. Tho list of applications for the Wellington section of tho Ninth Contingent closed with a total of 804 for 129 places. Uunkdin, February 5. Preparations in connection with the camp for tho Ninth Contingent as Tahima Park are being hurried forward.
A District Order states that tho vnon selected from A-ffibn-’-nn. Tun aril. Fairlie and Waimalo v.'.ii proiV-i'-d to Dunedin by tho express on Saturday, Bth February. Each m-m is to remain in camp until embarkation.
Twenty one man prcßci.tod themselves for t.A.aniinr'.tion as the Waitusto drillshod on Thursday afternoon, Captains Garland and Barclay, and Lieutenant Studhohue being the Selection Board. The height and riding teats weeded out four, and tho shooting two more. The selected men include several strangers who were working in the district, the local men being Furrier - Sergeant McTaggart (late sih Contingent), XL Aiming, Harvey, Harrison, James Anderson, Albert Hendry, Harold Wilson, Henry Coxon, Thomas Hobbs, Robert Ellen. Waimato’s quota was li. but a wire was received from Lieut.-Col. Bailey advising that four more wore wanted from Wairaate, and those wore accordingly selected from those offering. All tho men are of a good stamp, ana most ride very well, while their shootiug was above the average, the cop scorer making 17 for live shots (Government scoring), or throe oil the possible.
