The Nin th Contingent.

There ere 23 applicants for the 11 positions allotted to Wait note candidates for the Ninth Contingent. Tiie tests will be taken to-day commencing at 1.30 p.tu., Captain Barclay of the Waimate Rifles being medical officer; Captain Garland and Lieutenant Stud holme, of the Btudholme Mounted Rifles, with Captain Barclay, will judge the riding, and Lieutenant-Colonel Bailey will, put the men through the shooting test.

Fifteen horses were offered at Freeman’s stables for the Ninth Contingent on Tuesday, and of these Messrs T. G. Lillico and T. A. Field, of the Government Stock. Department, selected nine very suitable horses, paying, satisfactory prices for them.
