Tenders for a New ZealandSouth African steam service are called for in Australian papers this moruingk
Wellington, January 25
The Government is calling for tenders for a steam service to South Africa. The available subsidy is £30,000. The contract is to be for three years, and the steamers are to be not less than 2000 tons or more than 4000 tons, fitted with refrigerators, and accommodation for passengers, mails and live stock. The vessels must have a speed of not less than ted knots, and preference will be given to, those having more. Rates of freight are fixed by the Government atWheat and flour, 80s per ton * barley, 32s 6d ; oats, 85s ; bran, 40s ; hay, etc.; 87s 6d per ton'of 50 cubic feet; potatoes,’ 40a in sacks, 37s 6J in boxes per ton of 50 cubic feet; frozen meat and.dairy produce at the cm rent summer rates ruling bet New Zealand and London ‘ other goods at not. less than current .rates between' New -Zealand and London. y / ;; f ''SU'&ssr -
